Creating the brand you means being original. The hip hop industry is not looking for the same rapper; the industry is looking for original talent. Work hard. Produce music that you know can market, but make sure it-s your own work. Otherwise, you might want to be a ghostwriter, which is profitable and another way you can make a name for yourself in hip hop. In fact, some artists prefer to sit back and ghostwrite, or produce tracks for other artists who perform them. Either way you go, you must be original. Hip hop is looking for the next big thing, not the next big clone.
Talent is only half of the process. To make a name for yourself, expect to do a lot of self-promoting. Remember that no one will work harder for you than you. Also remember that no one will know who you are, unless you work hard to make that happen. Key words, work hard. You can have all the talent in the world, but without hard work, no one will ever hear that music come alive outside of your house or local talent show. Take the time to make a video to post onto networking sites that allow you to advertise yourself for free. If you have some extra cash, pay those websites to advertise you in the top percentile. Going viral these days is a recipe for instant success. The more people who know about you, the more record labels, producers, agents and managers will want to get to know. Invest in your own website where you list your contact information, play your music, sell merchandise, and share any videos and images.
