How Do We Harvest Energy?

Posted on April 4th, 2014

People harvest energy in many different ways. Energy harvesting can take place at giant power stations or at home. As the debate about using fossil fuels continues to intensify, more green energy sources are being developed and put into widespread use.

Fossil Fuels

A lot of the energy harvested in the world comes from fossil fuels, such as coal and oil. These resources are usually burned to produce energy. Gasoline, a derivative of oil, is burned to produce explosions that move pistons in a car’s engine, while coal power plants burn coal to create steam. The steam then turns a generator to produce electricity. Natural gas, which is often harvested in the same areas as oil, is typically pumped to homes to use as fuel for hot water heaters, stoves, and furnaces. All of these resources are harvested from the Earth in large mining or drilling operations.

Renewable Energy Sources

There are many renewable energy sources available to harvest now, but humans have been using some of them for a very long time. Wind and water power both work the same, and have both been used for centuries to accomplish tasks like turning mill stones. Today, a water wheel inside a hydroelectric dam or a windmill set up on a wind farm on an open plain both using the power of a natural force to turn a generator and create electricity. Wind turbines can be made small enough to fit on an office building or a house. The form of energy harvesting most likely to be used by a private residence or office building, however, is solar power. Solar power uses solar panels, which contain photovoltaic cells. Photovoltaic cells can capture sunlight and turn the energy into an electric current. The solar panel can be made small enough to charge a cell phone, or be combined into large arrays used to supply some of the energy to a city. If you are in Dallas there are a lot of Electricity Companies Dallas TX.

Nuclear Power

Nuclear power plants run on nuclear fission. Fission is the process of splitting the atoms of the radioactive material being used as fuel. This creates large amounts of energy in the form of heat. The heat is used to generate steam, and the steam is once again used to turn a turbine in an electric generator. There are many choices for energy harvesting, and one option is not always better than another. The choice of which method is best depends on the location, the resources available, and the energy needs being fulfilled.

Breaking Into Hip Hop

Posted on May 4th, 2012

So you want to be a hip hop star but all you know about breaking into the genre is what you’ve seen on a few episodes of MADE on your directstartv.com channels. Well here’s a short list of the things you need to get started – don’t think you’ve got all the answers!
A Demo – That’s right, people still catch breaks in this industry with a demo tape. Nowadays it’s expected to come in CD form and it’s worth paying a little extra to rent out a studio and have it remastered.
An Agent – And not your brother’s friend Willy, either. Find an agent who thinks you’ve got talent (hint: if you can’t you may need to rethink your musical ambition) then work with them on a deal you can both live with. Having someone else publicize you is the best way to get seen.
Thick Skin – You’ve got to have it to make it. People will tear you down and break you apart before you ever hear one nice word about your music but you’ve got to have faith that what you’re doing is good.

Creating the brand you means being original. The hip hop industry is not looking for the same rapper; the industry is looking for original talent. Work hard.
