Breaking Into Hip Hop

Posted on May 4th, 2012

So you want to be a hip hop star but all you know about breaking into the genre is what you’ve seen on a few episodes of MADE on your directstartv.com channels. Well here’s a short list of the things you need to get started – don’t think you’ve got all the answers!

An Agent – And not your brother’s friend Willy, either. Find an agent who thinks you’ve got talent (hint: if you can’t you may need to rethink your musical ambition) then work with them on a deal you can both live with. Having someone else publicize you is the best way to get seen.
Thick Skin – You’ve got to have it to make it. People will tear you down and break you apart before you ever hear one nice word about your music but you’ve got to have faith that what you’re doing is good.
